A school built to make performers
Veenavadini Sangeetha Vidyapeetam was established at Perla on 1 May 2005 as a milestone of the Prathishtanam: the Carnatic classes first held at Agalpady were given a home of their own at ‘Kedara’, and regular classes in vocal, mridangam and violin have been conducted there ever since.
Within a short span of time, enthusiastic students and music lovers were drawn by the purity of the Carnatic classical music taught here, and the Vidyapeetam opened a new branch in Mangalore city as well. Classes run at Ballapadavu, Perla and Mangalore, and a student joins whichever branch is convenient.
The focus of the Vidyapeetam is on making its students good performers and skilled artists. Alongside the graded examinations of the Government of Karnataka, students are brought to the platform through the institution’s own Nadopasana and Rasikapriya concerts.

What is taught
Three disciplines, one tradition
Vocal, mridangam and violin are taught side by side, so that a student learns to sing, to keep laya and to accompany within the same school.

Examinations
The graded examinations of the Government of Karnataka
Students of the Vidyapeetam are prepared for the three public grades in Carnatic music and are encouraged to sit them once their foundation is secure.

Junior Grade
The first of the graded public examinations in Carnatic music; students of the Vidyapeetam are encouraged to sit it once their foundation is secure.

Senior Grade
The intermediate grade, taken after the Junior Grade, covering a wider repertoire and greater manodharma.

Vidwath
The highest of the graded examinations. Smt. Swarnagowri was the first student of the institution to pass the Vidwath examination conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Board.
- Regular classes are offered in vocal, mridangam and violin, and a student may choose whichever branch is convenient.
- Some very rarely known krithis are also taught here.
- ‘Sadhaka’ practice classes are conducted once a week.
Ensemble practice
Group krithis, prepared as a team
Beyond the solo lesson, student teams are trained to render the great group krithis together — and some very rarely known krithis are taught here as well.
Thyagaraja Pancharathna Krithis
The Vidyapeetam has built a good team to render Thyagaraja’s Pancharathna Krithis, sung together each year at Thyagarajothsavam.
Navavarana Krithis
Student teams are trained here to present the Navavarana group krithis in ensemble.
Navagraha Krithis
The Navagraha group krithis are likewise prepared and presented by trained student teams.
